“ Vata Pitta Kapha Balancing Feast”
“Coconut Lentil Curry”
Coconut Lentil Curry is a nourishing and delightful dish that not only tantalizes the taste buds but also brings balance to the three doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
In Ayurveda, maintaining equilibrium among these elemental forces is key to achieving optimal health.
This recipe incorporates ingredients like coconut milk, turmeric, and cumin, which are known for their dosha-pacifying properties.
- Ingredients:-
- 1 cup red lentils
- 2 cups water
- 1 can (400 ml) coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped for garnish
- Preparation Method:-
- Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a large pot, heat the coconut oil over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they start to pop, add the onion, garlic, and ginger, sautéing until the onions are translucent.
- Stir in the turmeric, cooking for another minute to release its fragrance.
- Add the rinsed lentils, water, and coconut milk to the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils are soft and the curry has thickened.
- Season with salt to taste. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
- Effect on Doshas:-
- Vata:- The grounding and nourishing properties of coconut and lentils help soothe Vata’s dry and light qualities.
- Pitta:- Cooling coconut milk and cilantro help pacify Pitta’s heat, while turmeric offers anti-inflammatory benefits.
- Kapha:- Spices like cumin and mustard seeds ignite Kapha’s digestive fire without being overly stimulating.
